The Treasure Valley is offering ceremonies and events all holiday weekend to honor the lives of those in service. Memorial Day weekend will be observed at Morris Hill Cemetery (317 N. Latah St.) Saturday, May 23 through Monday, May 25, 2026. Staff will be on-site to assist the public in identifying grave locations.

The ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. at Morris Hill Cemetery and at 11:45 a.m. at Fort Boise Military Reserve Cemetery on Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day).

The Idaho Civil War Volunteers will be providing information on some of the soldiers interred, as well as a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps. Fort Boise Military and Reserve Cemetery and Pioneer Cemetery are open to the public to place flowers, wreaths or other mementos, but the cemetery will not be staffed.

Idaho State Veterans Cemetery is holding a ceremony Monday as well, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Stars & Stripes flies in silent vigil 24 hours a day on a magnificent hilltop overlooking the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Set against a backdrop of native grasses, green hills and the rugged Boise Foothills, the 76.5 acre cemetery offers a peaceful place of solitude and beauty for friends and family members of those laid to rest here.

The cemetery is located at 10110 N. Horseshoe Bend Road in Boise.

Meridian honors WWI soldier

From 11 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 25, the Rock of Honor Board and local veteran organizations, along with the City of Meridian, are hosting a memorial ceremony at the Rock of Honor Veterans Memorial in Kleiner Park.

James Dewey Highley will be honored at the event after recently having his name engraved on the monument. Dewey graduated from Meridian High School in 1917 and acted as Private Highley during World War I. He was killed in action in 1918 and was the first individual from Meridian to be killed during the war according to the City of Meridian's press release.

Seating is limited, attendees are encouraged by the city to bring folding chairs or other seating options.

Nampa ceremony and flyover

The City of Nampa will be holding their Memorial Day Ceremony a Veteran's Loop at the Kohlerlawn Cemetery. The ceremony starts at 10 a.m. and will last approximately an hour.

According to KTVB, the ceremony will feature bagpipes, special music and the sacred prayer.

The Warhawk Air Museum will be saluting veterans and honoring those who gave their lives for our country with flyovers that include 2 P-40s and 2 P-51 Mustangs, the flight path passes over several hospitals, cemeteries, and parks in Nampa, Meridian, Eagle, and Boise. The museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with vendors and a military vehicle display from the Idaho Military Vehicle Preservation Association. Tickets are $5 and kids six and under are free.

The Warhawk Air Museum is located in Nampa and has organized the annual Memorial Day flyover for years, bringing World War II-era fighter planes over the Treasure Valley to honor fallen service members.

Eagle Field of Honor

The City of Eagle is observing the holiday with the Eagle Field of Honor flags flying from May 16 to May 26. Flags stand 24 hours a day and remain lit at night. Beginning May 16, flags became available for purchase for $35 online or in person at Eagle City Hall.

According to KTVB, flags ordered online are available for pickup May 26 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. A hotdog cookout will be held on Monday, May 25, at noon at the Field of Honor in Merrill Park.

Visitors are welcome to place artificial flowers, flags, fresh flowers and wreaths graveside at city cemeteries. No glass or breakable containers are allowed. All mementos must be picked up by June 2 for those who wish to recollect them.

Morris Hill Cemetery is located at 317 N. Latah, Boise, Idaho. The cemetery is open from sunrise to sunset. Fort Boise Military Reserve Cemetery is located at 1101 Mountain Cove Road, and Pioneer Cemetery is at 460 E. Warm Springs Ave.

Memorial Day weekend hours at Morris Hill Cemetery are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, according to the City of Boise.
